Last Monday night was date night. And I have to say hats off to my special someone - he always gets week-night date nights right!
This one was a semi-surprise. In that I knew we were going out for dinner, but I didn't know where. Unfortunately though, Mr Zerodays doesn't really know how to keep a secret and in his excitement about everything he was planning, he blurted it all out a few days beforehand! He had been doing so well, and only had a few days to go, so at least he's improving on trying to keep surprises actually secret!
So I put on my finest and off we went to the Hilton's Tiger Green Brasserie in Mayfair.
I just love these grand old hotels in London, with their column lined entrances, and huge flags waving in the breeze just beckoning you indoors. And in we went!
The hostess welcomed us to our table and got us started off with some champagne cocktails. Delicious!
And then things really got tasty!
Beetroot cured salmon with onion toast and chived cream cheese:
Watermelon and Feta salad. An unusual combination but definitely a delicious one that I'll be trying to recreate at home!:
That went perfectly with my Watermelon Medley cocktail. This was meant to be non-alcoholic (which to be honest is usually how I like my drinks), but I was feeling brave so we added rum to it and apparently the staff liked it so much more than the original they're going to add this to their menu!
Then came herbed lamb rack with butternut squash cake, baby beet and lamb rissole. Mr Zerodays said this was absolutely gorgeous!
I had gnocchi stuffed with porcini mushrooms, sundried tomatoes and spinach. This was the lightest gnocchi I've had in a long time!
Then came my favourite part of all meals... DESERT!
I don't know what it is about crumble, but it makes me literally melt inside and is one of my all time favourites. Maybe because it has that oh so comforting, all warm and fuzzy inside feeling and is always delicious! So of course I had the pear and rhubarb crumble, which was as perfect as expected.
While Mr Zerodays gave in to his chocolate cravings and had a rather girly desert I thought! But this was utterly melt in your mouth gorgeous and so rich! Chocolate and raspberry marquise with peanut praline and honeycomb ice-cream.
I was one very happy bunny after that scrummy dinner. We had to have a bit of a rest in the hotel lobby after eating all of that food though!
All in all a great date night! And to top it off, my outfit was featured as an editor's choice on fashion/style website www.wiwt.com! Thanks to everyone that liked it! You can check it out here and here.
